OUR LESSONS & TEACHERS:
+ DO YOU USE FLOTATION DEVICES IN YOUR LESSONS?
No. At Swimmattix, we provide a learning environment without the use of flotation devices to ensure your child develops mobility and buoyancy independently.
+ WILL I GET INTO THE POOL WITH MY CHILD?
Baby Classes from 0 - 18 months require you as a parent to get into the pool. Our Learn to Swim classes (18 months and older) are one-on-one lessons without Mom/Dad.
+ MY CHILD DOES NOT REQUIRE A PARENT IN THE CLASS BUT CAN I STILL GET INTO THE WATER WITH THEM?
Unfortunately, no. The independent swimming program with only the teacher and child in water focuses on developing specific skills and techniques that enable your child to propel through the water independently.
+ WHY ARE LEARN TO SWIM CLASSES ONLY 15 MINUTES?
Young children learn better in shorter classes. Our lessons are very carefully put together to make use of all 15 minutes. Remember these are small bodies and they get tired too.
+ HOW OFTEN IS MY CHILD ASSESSED?
Your child is assessed every lesson, however a full report is only available on our app at the end of each month. Actual handing out of certificates happen on request of the parent.
+ WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD CRIES?
It is common for most children to cry. This is a normal reaction. Our teachers are highly trained in these situations. Pulling a child out of swim lessons due to crying is never a recommended course of action. Usually the crying phase is much harder on the parent than it is on the child. If your child is crying, it is best to get out of the line of sight from your child so they are able to better focus on the instructor.
+ WHAT IF MY CHILD DOESN'T LIKE THE LESSON? SHOULD I STOP?
Please do not begin our program unless you fully intend to finish. We do everything we can to make learning to swim an enjoyable experience for your child. Many children take a few weeks to work through their feelings about the water. It is a new environment where they are being asked to work very hard without Mom or Dad. Some amount of resistance is to be expected during the learning process. Please remember that it is not learning how to swim that's fun, but knowing how to swim that's fun.
+ HOW OFTEN SHOULD MY CHILD ATTEND SWIMMING LESSONS?
We recommend most students attend one to two (if your budget allows) swimming lessons per week. Skill development requires regular practice. So the more your child swims the better.
+ WILL MY CHILD HAVE THE SAME TEACHER EVERYWEEK?
Our teachers have made a commitment to their teaching days. However it is important to remember that they also get sick, need to attend important meetings, family obligations etc. We have made sure that when a teacher is off, that our stand in teachers are correctly & properly briefed to continue where your teacher left off.
+ WHAT LANGUAGE IS USED IN YOUR LESSONS?
Swimmattix is an English speaking swim school, our certificates and all lines of communication are done in English however our teachers are more than willing to speak in Afrikaans if they are able to (please note, not all our Teachers can speak Afrikaans, if this is a deciding factor please let us know before booking & we will do our best to book your child with a Teacher who is fluent in Afrikaans.) If your child requires to be taught in a language your child's teacher is not fluent in, please help them to with the basic words to help your child understand what is required. A good balance between words and visuals will still allow your child to progress through the Swimmattix Levels at a steady pace.
+ CAN YOU GUARANTEE MY REQUEST FOR MY FAVORITE TEACHER?
Some of our students and many of our parents have become attached to their teachers. Our teachers are wonderful and we continue to make decisions regarding where teachers are placed based on our effort to provide the best swim experience possible for everyone. We will always try to accommodate these needs. We cannot guarantee a teacher as space is based on availability, with that being said Swimmattix strives to deliver the same standard of teaching throughout and which ever teacher you end up going to - we know you will love them!
+ WHAT BENEFITS DO BABIES HAVE FROM SWIMMING LESSONS?
The earlier the better! Research suggests that the earlier one starts their children in swim lessons the more significant the benefits benefits are, such as:
- Boosts development of the whole child (early year round lessons for young children accelerated their development physically, intellectually, and emotionally).
- Children who swim consistently from infancy are significantly stronger and more coordinated.
- Children scored higher for intelligence and problem solving, which carries over into excellent academic achievement.
- Emotionally, children have been found to have more self-discipline, greater self-control and an increase in desire to succeed.
- Children rated higher in self-esteem and were more independent and comfortable in social situations than non-swimmers.
- Swim lessons for babies and toddlers improve their physical development.
- Baby swimmers develop better balance, movement and grasping techniques than non-swimmers.
